How Can I Get All This Hair Out Of My Necklace?

I have this necklace that I absolutely LOVE. It's a silver chain with a treble clef (aka...G clef) charm on it. I had ordered it from the internet a few months ago, and once it arrived, I instantly put it on and haven't taken it off since (except for this one time last moth when I had to go through an airport security system. But other than that, I never take it off). It is my most favorite necklace in the whole world. What really sucks is that my hair is really long and it gets stuck in the chain. Now a big part of the chain is filled with blonde hair. I have no clue how to get all my hair out of the chain. I don't want to pull it out myself because I'm afraid I'll break my necklace. Any advice on how I can get all this hair out of my chain and also does anyone have any advice on how I can prevent this from happening again? (This also happened with a few other necklaces I have where my hair got stuck in the chain. And no, I'm not cutting it. I like my long hair.) Thanks for the advice.
